    Tip for this tune

In E minor the Cs are C naturals, which a D whistle plays by cross-fingering (OXX OOO) or half-holing, and how cleanly that C sounds varies from whistle to whistle.

    About this tune

God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen is a traditional English carol printed on broadsides from around 1760, and the one a boy sings through Scrooge's keyhole in Dickens's A Christmas Carol. It is in E minor here, so on a D whistle it starts and ends on low E with only the bottom hole open, and the range never goes past high E. The C naturals in the “comfort and joy” refrain are the main fingering challenge, and the melody moves in steady steps, which makes it a good carol for building speed.
